The Hot Rod Filler Detective®
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® contains no user-serviceable items other than the battery.
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® Initial Preparation:
1. Install the 9V Battery – To install the battery, use the provided screwdriver to remove the battery cover. Snap the provided Duracell 9 volt battery to the battery connector. Position the battery into the compartment and replace the cover in reverse order of removal. The Hot Rod Filler Detective® is equipped with a low battery warning indication. To check the battery, hold The Hot Rod Filler Detective® in the air and then press the check button. If the red light flashes on and off repeatedly then the battery must be replaced.
2. Install Lanyard and Test Plate – With the provided red lanyard and test plate in front of you loop the black end of the lanyard through the hole in the test plate to attach the test plate to the lanyard. Next loop the red end of the lanyard through the hook hole on The Hot Rod Filler Detective®. Now the lanyard and test plate are attached to The Hot Rod Filler Detective®.
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® Calibration Check Procedure:
- Device Calibration Test – Using the test plate you just attached to the lanyard, hold the metal side of the test plate firmly against black microfiber test surface (must be firmly against the test surface and centrally align it with the black indicator arrow on top of the unit. Push the check button while holding the test plate in place, the green light will illuminate and no beeps. Indicating the green check mark “NO FILLER PRESENT”. Now turn the test plate over and you will see it shows 1/8” engraved on green side of the plate. Follow the same routine as for the metal side as described above. Push the check button while holding the test plate firmly in place, the yellow light will illuminate and the unit will beep repeatedly indicating approximately 1/8” (3.2 mm) “FILLER PRESENT”. Final test is to hold The Hot Rod Filler Detective® in the air and push the check button again, the red light will illuminate and the unit will beep fast. This concludes the test to ensure the device is working properly. You can show the seller these steps if they question the accuracy of the device.
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® is designed to measure a wide range of body filler depth between the painted surface and the metal below the paint while holding accuracy at approximately +/- 0.030” (0.762 mm). While paint thickness gauges are not designed to measure body filler depth The Hot Rod Filler Detective® is not designed to measure paint thickness.
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® Operating Procedure:
IMPORTANT NOTE ON ACCURACY AND TECHNIQUE – This is a highly sensitive (accurate) device and any rocking or gap between the surface being measured and the black micro fiber test surface of The Hot Rod Filler Detective® will result in a false indication of body filler depth as it will measure the gap you created plus the filler depth below. All measurements are taken at the alignment arrow on top of the unit. When held firmly against the surface to be tested and The Hot Rod Filler Detective® will provide you with an accurate depth reading at the arrow location only. By following the above simple yet extremely important instructions you will enjoy the accuracy of The Hot Rod Filler Detective®.
Remember – All measurements are taken at the arrow pointer and always hold
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® flat (perpendicular) with no gaps against the surface being measured
“Operation” – To use The Hot Rod Filler Detective® press it flat on the surface to be tested (firmly flat against the surface with no gaps) using the arrow for alignment as to where you want to check. Press and hold the check button and glide the meter along the surface where you suspect hidden body filler may be present. You can also do spot checking if you wish to not glide along the surface
When body filler is located the
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® will begin to beep and light the respective indicator to
show the depth at the arrow pointer. The deeper the body filler the faster the unit will beep.
The Hot Rod Filler Detective® Depth Indication illumination and audible beeps:
Green —- No body filler present (no beep)
Blue —– 1/16” (1.6 mm) body filler present (slowest beep)
Yellow — 1/8” (3.2 mm) body filler present (slow beep)
Orange — 3/16” (4.8 mm) body filler present (faster beep)
Red —— 1 / 4” (6.4 mm) or greater body filler present (fastest beep)
- Cleaning – Use only mild soapy water on a damped cloth to clean The Hot Rod Filler Detective® Use of any cleaners other than soap and water or submerging the The Hot Rod Filler Detective® in water will void the warranty. The Hot Rod Filler Detective® is not waterproof and will be destroyed if submerged in water.
Limited Warranty for The Hot Rod Filler Detective®
InterSource OEM, Inc. warrants this product to be free from defects in manufacturing for one year from the date of original retail purchase. This warranty extends only to the original retail purchaser and only covers failures due to defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover damages which occurred during shipment and or failures which are caused by products not supplied by the warrantor, or failures which result from accidents, misuse, abuse, neglect, mishandling, misapplication alteration, improper maintenance, modification, commercial use, rental use or damage that is attributable to acts of God.
